Mission

●Regeneration and creation of modern cities
Cities in the 21st century are facing many complicated problems caused by the trends of population decline, ageing and industrial hollowing. The concepts of ‘Innovation’ and ‘Sustainability’ are essential to cope with such problems.

●A graduate school for professionals
GSUM aims to create leaders, advanced professionals and practical researchers (from governmental/public institutions, private companies, non-profit organizations etc.) who are able to solve urban management problems through the concepts of ‘Innovation’ and ‘Sustainability’ from the viewpoint of economics, management, policy sciences, regional studies and law/public administration study.

●To accomplish this mission, 4 courses have been prepared:

  1. Urban Policy and Regional Economy Course to study urban and regional policy and regional economic analysis as a basis of urban management.
  2. Urban Governance Course?to study the governance and organization reform problems of local governments and public institutions.
  3. Urban Business Course?to study the management reform problems of start-up or small/medium size companies and ICT business to revitalize urban economy.
  4. Innovation Management of Healthcare and Social Welfare Organizations Course?to study the management reform problems of Medical/welfare companies and public institutions.

●Finding solutions for urban problems
GSUM will provide interactive workshops, opportunities for collaborative researches between staff and students, and projects involving local organizations and authorities in the Kansai area, to develop leaders and professionals who will strive to find solutions for urban regeneration and revitalization problems though the concepts of ‘Innovation’ and ‘sustainability’.

Master Courses

?GSUM aims to develop leaders who possess the creative and ethical insight to solve urban management issues, through innovation and sustainability of the major sectors supporting cities (administration, planning, medical & welfare, non-profit organizations, business etc.), from the viewpoint of economics, management, policy sciences, regional studies and law/public administration study;

?Also, GSUM aims to develop expert professionals and practical researchers with the ability to identify and systematically solve urban issues.

Admission Policy

?GSUM admits students who are prepared to systematically acquire the knowledge required for urban related (administrative, civil and economic) research in each respective course (Urban policy and regional economy, Urban administration, Urban business and Medical & welfare innovation management) and possess logical thinking ability and written expression skills, regarded as the basic elements of knowledge.

?Applicants to the general admission track will be selected through an interview testing their knowledge and past achievements deemed necessary to successfully study after admission, and through a research plan to be submitted in advance to test the writing skills and creativity deemed necessary to carry out research.

?Applicants to special admission tracks will be subjected to a written exam, which in addition to their knowledge and writing skills will test their ability to logically propose and construct a final thesis.
